Obscure Tales: slowly returning

I meant to have the new Obscure Tales story inked and scanned this weekend, but I ran into a not-unexpected snag: I suck.

I attempted to work in a new style for me. I decided to try to emulate the, apparently inimitable Michael Cho and it didn't work. That is actually an understatement. I was using tools in a way I hadn't before and tried to move as quickly as I do with techniques I know. I managed three pages before admitting defeat.

There were some nice moments, though and I did learn a lot. Mostly about using more than one tool for a page. I'm re-inking the comic in a version of my 'style' and just finished the first page using a dip pen, a Pigma Micron 01 and two kolinsky sable brushes. Not bad.

The new comic, I will tell you, is short (four pages plus cover) and is an expanding of a one-page comic I did a few years ago. The cover is up, but if you want the synopsis, you can go to the home page .

In pursuit of the Cho style, I bet you'd be happier with a brush pen.
want to try one? I'll see if there are any left at the shop.

Great work! I have only read the first one so far "Mr Twilight". Love how you added in some ads as well. I hope you keep it up.

SE: Cool. I'll give it a try

SK: Thanks! I like to think they get better as they go. I'd appreciate any feedback you'd care to give.

It is cool that you are stretching yourself into new areas. The learning is the important part. I am doing a lot of that learning stuff lately.

Word verification: trash - the average stock rating on Wall St right now. (amazed that I got a real word [besides "poopie" that is])

Snab: Hopefully you're learning things the easy way (or, from someone else's hard way).

I hate getting a real verification word, it's no fun. It's like knowing which 'Bluff the Listener' story is the real one on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

sorry I've been a bum about posting

keep chugging along. Love your mastery with coloring
although I'm not totally sold on the logo for obscure tales. but I love everything else immensely. Your stories have been a lot more entertaining than most of the stuff I've read recently.

@SB: a bum? No. A dad? yes. You've been a weeeeee bit busy, I'll wager.

What don't you like about the logo. I've got some concerns myself, but would like to hear yours (along with any ideas).
