one-upsmanship

First, The Beast at 10,000 Feet is still finished (with a color cover and everything).

Secondly, Swinebread posted an Indiana Jones comic in honor of the new movie. I, however, actually have a chance to out-geek him, perhaps. He put up a 'Further Adventures of Indiana Jones" cover, while I pulled this out of a rather worse for wear poly bag:

For some reason, I have one and two, but not three. Why is that? It is likely one of those unanswerable questions like: I was part of a family of pack-rats, we never threw diddly out, so why do I still have crappy comics like a Whitman Batman and Doctor Solar: Man of the Atom, but my coveted hardcover of Spacecraft: 2000-2100 ad is long AWOL?

It will probably reduce the out-geeking factor, but this was a well-read comic. I devoured it many times and it actually made me attempt very primitive comics. It was so well-read that it is now a... bit below near-mint. Here's the back cover:

Now, I just have to see the new film. A friend said it was more Temple of Doom than Raiders, but I will still probably see it.

Listening to while posting: nothing. I'm just checking email and posting before I turn this off and draw.

That ad brought back a swarm of memories.

I harangued my parents for months to buy me that Roman soldier playset.

Then the thing seemed to take forever to arrive via the mail. I ran home from school and checked every day.

When it finally got there it was a huge dissapointment. The soldiers were all one dimensional and one color.

It was sea monkeys redux. Where are their little homes? Why aren't they smiling? Why are they eating each other?

Ha!

I always wanted, but luckily got gifted and inherited pounds of 'real' Army Men.

Found this site about those back-of-comic-book sets

Did you actually order SeaMonkies?

I always liked the Whoopie Cushion, Disappearing Ink and other gag ads...they always seemed like sneaky fun!

I also love the Indiana Jones cover...brings back memories for me too! I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out...I was blown away!

That is actually a really cool cover

(I remember seeing the sea monkeys ad and wondering what you actually got if you ordered them... were they those tiny crustaceany things?)

John: what you get is a bunch of tiny shrimp that die in a very short time. It was marketing genius on par with the Pet Rock

Sorry I didn't comment sooner, but the Beast is funking awesome! I love the cover especially.
Well done, sir!

Dr. S:
Thanks, man. I wasn't worried; I knew you were trying to do lame things like pass school ;)

BTW: Maybe it's just my old G4, but the Consortium website locks up my browsers something awful. Can't view, can't post.

Just so's you know I'm not avoiding you.

You know, I think I have that someplace.

I can't be sure if I've got it, but I did read it.

but yes you've out geeked me... this time.

I never ordered any of that back cover stuff because I knew it was BS for some reason. I had a bunch of the Army guys though and they fought my dinosaurs.

Oh man, I used to have that Spacecraft: 2000 - 2100ad book. My dad got it at a used book store or something when I was 9 or 10. I'd study each page then go make up my own ships. I have no idea what happened to my copy either. Lost to time.

And The Beast comic is rad. Good work.
