Suit

Hey, I'm back.

I managed to fit three references to this week's topic into my piece! It isn't bad. I really have to work on my inking style; my pencils look good, but when I ink, it loses something. Of course, part of me worries that I'll never get a style. The other part worries that I do have a style and it isn't good. Heh.

I took reference photos of myself for this. I was wearing a pretty nice, immaculate, vintage, single-breasted, two-button gray pinstripe suit that I got at a local used clothing shop for $15. The jacket fits great, but the trousers are about 6" too long.

Anyway, here's the ink:

and here's the pencil:

And a no-prize to whoever can identify what television lawyer I was attempting to portray.

I think (just my thoughts) you miss the tone in the translation.. and this can sometimes be compensated with thickness and thinning of line...

Ps... i had some problem getting into your site.. a double http...

OOOPs... big no no...

I really liked your piece.. regardless of how you felt,(sometimes we get caught up in our own work... a reason IFriday is so good ... It (your illo, tells a story!, clearly and with drama) By the way... a BIG thankyou for your feedback... (smiling here) Its definitely something I will consider.... the triple view... :)

your inking style is good. the only thing i would suggest (like on the comic i critiqued a few weeks ago) is to work on your spot blacks (as my art teacher called them). there are no shadows in the illustration at all. which is fine, mobius never puts shadows in his stuff, and still did amazing stuff.

you have a great talent.

btw, when i clicked on the link on IF i was sent to wikipedia hyperlink.. you might want to check that..

and also.. check out www.greenlabelart.com for a chance to design a mountain dew bottle and win $10,000.

I'm thinking Perry Mason? And I see the three suits I think...he's wearing a suit, he's holding a suit of cards in a bag, and it's a law suit!! Right? Clever guy. Excellent illo!

Great illo, very dramatic and lots of energy in the lawyer guy.
As for losing something in the inking, as far as I can see you simply didn't follow through with the detailed shading you did in the drawing, but that maybe a style decision you made.

I agree with the other posts. The only thing "wrong" with your inking (compared to the pencil drawing) is that you omitted most of your shadows. And the only problem I have with the pencil drawing is the playing card is wrong. The numbers should be in the top left/bottom right...

Janice, Demosthenes Janine, Andrezero, Swinebread: Thanks for the crit. You all coroborrated each other. That must mean something. I will certainly take those comments to heart.

Lolo: Sorry! The question was who was I ATTEMPTING to portray, not who it looks like. Heh. It's supposed to be James Woods from 'Shark'.

Michelle: thanks for the encouragement.

Swinebread: "Bring the Shadows Back". Wow. That sounds like a line from something. If it isn't, it should be. I get chill just saying it out loud
