Penguin Killer

So, in the 'Weird War Tales' cover for the ENJPs, they were fighting Brewster Buffalo, an obsolete fighter from the beginning of WW2. I didn't want to have the ENJPs overmatched, though it would be fun to have them kicking ass on a bunch of Corsairs or maybe even a Black Widow.

But, this is a fantasy universe, so what they would fight would be...

AUTOGYROS!

Woo! The Westland Skua operated by the RNZAF out of Ohakea.

Yup. Autogyros.

Listening to while posting: nothing. Sweet Enemy is quite ill and my studio is near the bedroom, so I don't want to disturb her. And, I'm not a big headphone fan

Does that thing need fancy computers to keep it aloft like the Osprey? Looks like a good match to the penguin craft.

I'm with you on the headphones. Don't like 'em.

Snab: no computers at all. It doesn't get much simpler than an autogyro. The rotor is free spinning and only provides lift. It's pretty much a Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) craft.

The Osprey is cool, but stupid and scary at the same time. Go fig.

an autogyro unit would have really changed the WWII battlefield. If either side had been able to field them in great numbers early on that is, but alas it was not to be.

They are quite practical actually.

The coloring makes me think Luftwaffe rather than allies though but it's a wonderful imagining.

My main curiosity about autogyros: what did they sound like?

The paint scheme is based on this Spitfire . I almost did it in postwar RN colors just because it looks cool.

That pic is perfect, just like all your vehicle pictures.
Bravo, sir!

Dr S: Perfect? How dare you, sir! I can find at least three things that need work!
