Postah

To keep my design chops up, I occasionally do posters for fun. For this challenge, I took one of my favorite books and tried to do a two-color poster in two hours. That's sketching, finalizing, comping, and readying for print in two hours. I did it but, whether or not it's an effective poster is up to you, the viewer. The bell was made by me in Adobe Illustrator and the font is Mrs. Eaves.

And, yes, I feel that Guillermo Del Toro is the only contemporary director who could do Garth Nix's fantastic novel justice.

Posters and Posters

First, and most importantly, the original painting for the 24-Hour Comics Poster is up for raffle! Tickets are $3.00 and all proceeds are going to benefit the Williston Community Food Shelf. If you want a chance to win a big acrylic gouache painting of the poster, email Artists' Mediums. The poster is matted and professional framing is available for an additional cost. Shipping is extra.

I will also have a limited number of the color photocopied posters for sale for $2.00 each (the proceeds also going to benefit the Williston Community Food Shelf). These are un-matted and shipping is extra.

Just to remind you, here is the awesome thing (if I do say so myself. And I do)

Secondly, we're having our fourth annual Horror Movie Mini-fest. This year it's a werewolf theme. No CGI huskies fighting glowing emo-goths, here, folks! If you want to come, shoot me an email.

The time nears...

Sure, it's months away, but we have to get this year's 24-hour Comics Day at Artists' Mediums going strong early.

Here's the poster. Designed and drawn by yours truly and over-painted by Sweet Enemy (who is also the assistant manager/head framer at Aritists' Mediums). We're going to be raffling off the original with proceeds to benefit the Williston Community Food Bank.

In other news, I've been "restructured", so things are odd. I suppose that means more time for art after I've updated my design portfolio...

In the immortal words of Les Claypool: "Funny thing about the weekends when you're unemployed; they don't seem to mean quite so much. 'cept you get to hang out with your workin' friends"

And, while I don't want to overshadow my work, you have to check out Michael Cho's Superboy cover. It's so nearly perfect that it left me stunned...

Posters!

It's Twenty-Four Hour Comics Day time again and time for a new poster. Sweet Enemy and I let this creep up on us, so this one was a bit rushed. It was decided that this was B/W only. Ah well, It's not too bad. Typography by me, illustrations by Sweet Enemy:

It's also time for our third annual Horror Movie Mini-Fest. When we were house hunting in July '07, I decided, for some reason, that we should have our house before that Halloween and then we'd have a Halloween horror movie party. You know what? We did!

The first year was nearly a disaster with a broken DVD player (luckily, my buddy Kick Enemy Men had just that morning bought a new powerbook, so we fired it up and all sat on the floor watching the computer. The second year was a bit better with a pretty good crowd, including a 1.5 year old girl who sat on the coffee table facing us with The Evil Dead 2 playing behind her.

Here's this year's poster. Let me know if you're coming over.
